ABOUT US
A brief of our history
Christchurch Chinese Methodist Church (CCMC) was established on 9th April 1995 by Rev. Joel Siew with a group of around 30 overseas Chinese immigrants from Sarawak, Malaysia. We were mainly Methodist believers who saw the needs to establish our own Chinese Methodist church in Christchurch. The church is under the Provisional Annual Conference of the Chinese Methodist Church in New Zealand.
CCMC initially rented the Upper Riccarton Kiwi Methodist Church to conduct our Sunday worship services and church activities. As the church grew over the years, we were eager to have our own church premises and thus we began the search of the new church premises from 1997 onward. By the grace of God, in the early 2010, CCMC managed to secure a deal through a faithful church parishioner to purchase over a beautiful landmark historical church which belonged to the Merivale Kiwi Methodist Church.
We welcome you to our Sunday worship service!
On 21st March 2010, we began the first Sunday morning worship service at the new church. At the same time, we continued to use the Upper Riccarton Church premises for a second afternoon worship service.
Six months later, on 4th September 2010, a severe earthquake of 7.1 magnitude badly damaged our church resulting in our return to Upper Riccarton church to continue our Sunday worship services. A subsequent severe earthquake on 22nd February 2011 had caused further damages beyond repairs. The church was later demolished and rebuilt to a new modern church which was completed on 30th August 2015. It was officially opened and solemnly dedicated by Rev. Dr. James Kwang, Bishop of the Chinese Methodist Church in Australia Annual Conference.
